PIPA and SOPA

Today I will be educating you on PIPA and SOPA. First of all, PIPA stands for protect IP act and SOPA stands for stop online piracy act. Piracy is the illegal downloading, selling, or streaming of TV shows that have been created by other people. PIPA and SOPA are two bills that have been stopped for now, but the battle hasn’t been won yet.
page. Thousands of other websites proceeded to do the same thing to raise awareness.SOPA is an act where the government wants to be able to censor certain websites and what you see on them. Many websites did not agree with what this right is doing. Wikipedia and Google showed their discomfort by “blacking out” their
A lot of people weren’t very happy because of how they were getting tricked. The person that created the bill tried to trick Congress by wording it in a tricky way. They used a lot of giant words that kind of went around in a loop. They used that in a giant stack of paper in tiny print where they place in normal print something that Congress would want to help. They basically tried to hide it from the Congress.
Many people at home also disagree with these bills because they could shut down websites that they enjoy using such as YouTube. YouTube would be shut down because many people post TV shows and series on there, which is illegal. However, not everybody uses YouTube to watch TV episodes off of channels they don’t have. Some people us YouTube to watch skits, gaming videos, or for information on the modern world. There is nothing wrong with what these people are doing so they think that just the videos or anything in this category should be taken down. Which brings us to another controversial topic.
Another of the things that this bill was going to take down is pirate bay. Pirate Bay is a website that is based in Sweden and is a place where you can illegally download movies, shows, music, and much more. One of the main places they steal from was Hollywood. When Hollywood tried to protest the Pirate Bay they said that it wasn’t illegal in Sweden. Which brings us to another controversial topic.
Many people like the fact that piracy should be stopped through projects like PIPA and SOPA but they think it has too much power. They think that only the things posted related to piracy should be shut down and not the whole entire websites. Some people make a lot of money by making videos off of websites where you can post videos such as YouTube. So the people that use it for their own hobbies or for money think that this bill has too much power but agree with how they want to stop the piracy that is going on. People also think that this is too powerful because they want to be able to shut down it on the Internet from everywhere in the world. Overall, this is a very controversial subject and could go either.
